Barnes & Noble Wants to Fatten Up Your Children

Well, yes. I am being a drama queen. But please allow me this precious moment to complain with petty arguments that you may just agree with.

BN couponI am part of B&N’s discount club. You pay $25 a year to get discounts off most of your purchases. We love it. It’s extremely worthwhile.

They also send your kid a free birthday “gift” each year: a coupon for a cookie or cupcake at their cafe’. But why not send my kid a coupon for $2 or $3 off of a children’s book instead? Why not encourage my kid to read books since their business is all about books? C’mon now!

I’m just busting Barnes & Noble’s bookish ballz, of course. My family really does love the store. And ya, we will use the coupon…maybe…eh, probably not.

I’d rather have the bookstore encourage my kids’ reading with book rewards instead of free desserts. Your thoughts?

I think we deserve the free dessert AND a coupon for a free book. I want it all.

Oh wow!! That is so gross. I agree, send a coupon for a book instead!!
(We don’t have to worry about this here because all the B&N closed in Oregon.)

The last cupcake I had there about a year ago was pretty stale. They’re probably trying to unload all the stale cupcakes onto the kids.

I totally agree! But I just realized we MOMS are the ones who gave birth. WE should get the cupcakes on their birthdays. Problem solved.

A moose-shaped cupcake would be ideal.

Or better yet, they should just send us cash (and the cupcake).

Interesting about B&N store down there. Ours here in Delaware is thriving. I read an article this week that ebook sales trends are starting to go flat. Very surprising to hear.

I have my son signed up for the kids club as well. I never really had an issue with the cupcake/cookie gift. Perhaps that speaks of my parenting. But I would agree with getting a free book or a dollar amount off a book as well. Most other birthday clubs gives you a percentage or dollar off for your birthday.

I’m sure your parenting skills totally rock. I do let my kids have sweet but I just figured a book store would have a book-related treat. Reading is fundamental, right? hehe

I get the “birthday treat” sentiment, but yeah… they should offer a book discount BEFORE any sweet add ons lol..

Give us a free treat then sell us a weight loss book. It’s a conspiracy.
