Who wouldn't a warm, baked pastry made with real fruit filling and topped with sugars crystals? I temporarily tucked my box of Eggo Bake Shop Twists into the freezer to save for dessert, but my greedy urge miraculously faded and I forgot I even had them. It's now two months later and the commercials are starting to air. It's time to pull out the Strawberry-filled Bake Shop Twists!
There are only four in a box, which left me disgruntled until I saw how big they actually are, about 4 x1 inches. The 25 second cooking time isn't too shabby either, but I don't appreciate the faulty directions because I had to cook my Twist 10 seconds longer. That extra waiting was a real inconvenience.
Once you pull your soft and slightly steaming Twist from the microwave your nostrils with will flare from the wonderful aroma and you'll begin to salivate with tasty anticipation. After my Twist cooled off I split it in two for a glimpse of the fruit filling. That's when all hell broke loose.
Where the heck is the fruit filling? Yes, it technically contains fruit, but I've been shammed, scammed, and played for a fool. Do you get what I'm saying? There's barely any fruit inside. It's too bad because what little strawberry fruit there is actually tastes very good, but the lack of filling is such a severe problem that it would make David Banner go Hulk in anger.
I was also let down by the pasty itself. Eggos never really claims to be delivering up pastry, but they tout their Twists as bakery inspired, so my first thought is pastry, right? What you really get is bread; a bready twist filled with microscopic splats of strawberry. I should have saved myself $4.29 and just cracked open some strawberry preserves and spread it on a hot roll sprinkled with sugar...same difference, but what you should really do is try a warm waffle spread with homemade preserves. Now that's tasty!
