The taste test series on Healthy Choice's new line of all natural entrees has been hit and miss so far. Their Pumpkin Squash Ravioli was excellent but Portabella Spinach Parmesan was a complete dud. So why was I naively confident in Sweet Asian Potstickers?
This dish should really be called Spicy Potstickers. After my first bite of the rice/sauce concoction I sent out a plea on Twitter for a bucket of water to douse the flames, but if spicy is your thing you'll have no complaints. The meal was served on a bed of so-called "whole grain brown rice" that looked exactly like white rice to me, but at least the nice-sized carrots were a consolation.
Then came the Potstickers litmus test...a complete fail. The flavorless goop of filling has a terrible slimy texture that made me feel like I was eating live bugs. I forced myself to eat the rest because there were no other low calorie lunchtime options short of the 1/4 mile city trek for Subway's Veggie Delight.
I've had authentic Potstickers from Asian cuisine and the frozen kind out of a bag. Healthy Choice Sweet Asian Potstickers are bottom rung in comparison to both. The picture on the box hints of a tasty concoction, but I was very disappointed to the point of barely able to finish. Hunger was my only motivation. Care to try some Potstickers?
