Home Workout Arsenal: Your Equipment Checklist

Don’t feel pressured to gather all this stuff at once. I sure didn’t. It happened over time. Use the checklist as a guide to tailor your own list to your needs. If you’re starting bare bones to build an arsenal of equipment, I suggest you start out with dumbbells (5, 8 and 10 pounds) and training journal, then add a step bench when you can.

In this video mash-up are examples of good ways to use the equipment listed in the Checklist. BOOM!

  • Interval Timer
  • Speed Rope
  • Medicine Ball
  • Stability Ball
  • Kettlebells
  • Dumbbells
  • Training Gloves
  • Step Bench
  • Pull Up Bar
  • Exercise Resistance Bands & Tubing
  • Training Journal / Workout Log
  • Sledgehammer & Tires (try picking these up at a flea market)

You’re a home workout athlete! Don’t let your workouts go stagnant. Always keep challenging yourself. Your training journal (a simple spiral notebook or index cards) is excellent for not only logging your workouts, but also evaluating past workouts to see if you’re truly taking things to the next level over time.

Chime in and tell me about your favorite home workout equipment in the comments. I’m nosy like that. What’s the next piece of equipment you plan to add to your arsenal?

  8. Obviously one needs a crayon to record workouts. Obvi! Also, what about some sort of mat? I want to be comfy when I lie down to get buff.

I was gonna recommend the hard concrete for Pilates workouts, but figured someone may stone me over that tip.
I’ve got a box of fresh crayons ready to go for journaling this week.

I swear by my speed rope. I definitely want to invest in kettle bells and for fun tires next year.:-) thanks for this handy list.. I would also add resistance bands which i use for at home workouts and the park.

I love this video.. I’ve got to get a sledgehammer and some tires. That’s the kind of thing I need to do. I’m too attached to resistance bands so you’ll get me to branch out with this list.
    Have a great 2014!
