Emergency Breakfast Mug Shot

It’s been THAT kinda morning…

banana1 Emergency Breakfast Mug ShotMeh.

The bottom completely fell outta my regular-breakfast routine this morning. I was running so late, I couldn’t whip up my Shakeology, and didn’t have any Chobani to grab either.

Say WHAAT!? This is pretty much criminal.

So I did the next best thing a fancy woman could do in a hurry…

I grabbed a banana and began to chomp down with 10,000 pounds of jaw pressure. That’s more powerful than a crocodile’s bite.

Yes… be impressed.

I also ate 4 crackers to add excitement and intrigue to this half-assed breakfast. But there are no pictures of that, ‘lest I reveal to you the endoscopic images of cracker crumbs obliterated into a gastric stew within my stomachs.

I try to keep emergency back up food on hand as much as possible for days like this. Bananas are a staple food for me. They never let me down. I also keep Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel Bread in the freezer at work for makin’ it warm & toasty (with a small smathering of REAL butter) in the event of a breakfast emergency such as this.

So I’m pretty much set with healthy back-ups whenever regular-breakfast does a face plant.

…what about YOU? What’s your back-up plan when regular-breakfast gets all jammed up? Maybe I can add your idea to my collection of foods to gnaw on. Muwaaahahahahaaaa!!

Comments

  1. My back up when I run late is a single scoop of UMP protein powder from Beverly International, stirred into my coffee. It’s not ideal, but it gets me by until I can whip up my morning omelet…

  2. Hmm, good question as I have never skipped breakfast or needed a back up plan. Something to think about though. For sure it would NOT be a banana. Ick!

The weird thing is, I hate eating bananas straight up plain (time banana bread instead). They taste nasty plain. But I need them to refuel after a workout. “No bananers makes Josie a very bitchy woman.”

My worst case scenario is just a breakfast of healthy snacks I keep around. So some almonds, cheese, jerky, fruit, veggies, hummus, whatevs! Normally though, I go for yogurt, muslei, fruit, and pb, or sprouted english muffin, cream cheese, and a morningstar patty + fruit. I’m not much for breakfast that doesn’t take 2 seconds to make at work :) .

Raw nuts are good. Won’t go stall and can last in your desk for a while.

Bananas are about the only thing I will eat for breakfast when and if I eat it. My schedule is so awkward & I’m not a breakfast girl. Sometimes, I’ll do a Special K bar.

Unfortunately, I skip breakfast more than I eat it. When I have to work, I grab half of a bagel with some cream cheese and a piece of fruit.

My emergency stash of instant oatmeal. Not as clean as regular oats, but will do in a pinch. I also keep dark chocolate oatmeal in my desk drawer to beat off the afternoon sugar monster.

I try to always have some hard-boiled eggs ready to go!

  9. Look into Trader Joe’s frozen steel cut oats, if you haven’t already. Already cooked, shaped & frozen into a hockey puck. It tastes like paper on its own, so you may want to add some flavor things to it.

I have a stash of granola and dried apricots in my desk at work just in case, but I usually make my breakfasts the night before (yogurt and granola, cottage cheese and fruit or chia overnight oats) when I pack my bag just to save my sanity…

I keep fruit, especially apples as a back up. The picture is too funny.

Banana, avocado, or Ezekiel bread. A tablespoon of cashew nut butter and a banana, or slathered on the bread. And always a cup of coffee. Mama don’t go until she gets her “mommy go juice”.

  13. I love Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel Bread Josie!!!!!! YUM!!! Well, I always have my homemade protein bars or muffins handy so.. I make a batch as they deplete.. but it is a good thing to think about! :) Now with my Designer Whey love, I have all their goodies for on the run! :)

  14. I don’t really eat breakfast. I just pound some coffee and call it a day. I don’t feel hungry in the morning, so I just follow my tummy, it knows best :) Although this morning I did stuff my face with some chocolate covered coffee beans that were chilling in my office kitchen… whoops!

Good call on the banana! Too bad you didn’t have a packet of PB you could squirt on it. They sell those you know. I hope you properly disposed of the banana peel and made sure that no one slipped on it.

Hard. Boiled. Egg!! I keep a half dozen or so in the fridge. Or cottage cheese. or yogurt…whole wheat english muffin with a tad of PB. I usually will have one of these items around. Breakfast is important yo! Cute banana pic!!

  17. JAM UP SESSION!! Ha! I always plan in advance, I have things WAITING for me in the fridge so if I need to go quickly, I grab it and run!! :) Sometimes I bring canned food with me too – and if it’s not an easy open top – yup, I bring a can opener! LOL!

I have done the Banana thing before and usually end up getting way hungry in a couple hours. This type of food is great if you can mix in some oatmeal and protien powder and you are all good.

My emergency back-up is usually oatmeal from Starbucks, which probably takes longer than fixing my usual Eggbeaters and toast at home …

Yummy I have Alvarado st. cinnamon raisin bread, which is basically a local brand of Ezekiel. I ate it today for lunch with cheese, greens and pear, but it’s super good with just plain butter too…one of my dad’s fav snacks when I was little (well his wasn’t sprouted, of course). I eat breakfast at work so I always have time for it, but the couple times a year when I have to have breakfast or a meal and really have no time, I’ve also, like you, eaten a banana, even tho I never usually eat them plain as a snack otherwise.
