regret Scientific Data: 4 Chances to Avoid Greedy Foodstuffs

Do not regret your food choices. Especially when you’re shopping. You’ve got at least 4 chances to get it right. Behold the groundbreaking scientific data…

1st chance is right after you notice the greedy foodstuffs within eyeball’s view with visions of multiple foodgasms. 2nd chance is after you imagine yourself gnawing on the tastiness. 3rd chance is in that moment before you zone in, grab it off the shelf and actually put the foodstuffs into your cart. 4th chance is right before you checkout to pay for it.

That’s it, my friend. You’re all outta chances.

Once you get the greedy foodstuffs home, it’s almost sure to end up in your stomach.

1… 2… 3… 4 chances.

If it’s not the right time for indulgence, you’ve got at least 4 chances to change your mind and say “hell naw”.

The scientific data has spoken.

I regret those tabloid magazines right next to the cashier. I end up getting 3 or 4 at a time. I tell em at the store…It’s my wife…she said make sure you get those magazines…ah, I don’t read these…I don’t even know who these celebrities are, Oh my gosh, look at this picture of Kristie Alley! Ah…I mean, who is that?

You are correct! We are given four chances to think about the stuff in our grocery chart. If we have the will power to say no, then we won’t be consuming too many unhealthy stuff.

We are keeping greedy foodstuffs to a minimum around here. I haven’t bought Halloween candy yet either…..it would NOT last until Halloween.

Since I downloaded my last “greedy childling” (2.5 yrs. ago), my husband has been doing our grocery shopping. He does a great job. He sometimes gets a treat but not all the time. If I buy treats it’s usually single servings, so I am not tempted all the time every day. I’m the gal who shared the People’s Pharm podcast on the Twitter. :) I have a question for you about post workout soreness. This past month I have been working out harder than before (lost 2% body fat in that month!!), and I am sore in sundry locations around the bod. [I have run at a pretty slow pace a few miles a week (15 when I am living right, maybe 4 or 5 when I am living in sin) for several years.] Do you still get sore? What do you do about it?

You sneaky little rascal! I didn’t realize that was YOU on Twitter. hehe.
Yes, I get sore every single week. I tends to happen 2 days after a really good workout. I use adequate resistance to really feel “the burn” during exercise, so DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) is a way of life for me. The best way I deal with DOMS is with Yoga and general stretching, as it speeds recovery time. With DOMS, if I totally do nothing and get no movement, it makes it worst and really makes me feel rusty. If I have a huge case of DOMS, I usually opt for a walk, just to keep my body moving. I have DOMS right now in my inner thighs. GAH!

Really good warm-up/stretching prior to your workout can reduce the DOMS (I warm up for no less than 10 minutes before a workout). Also hydrate properly and consider foam rolling to help you recover as well. Here are some articles on DOMS:

Congrats on that 2% body fat loss. woohoo!!!!

I’ve trained my mind, my hands, and my wallet to avoid junk at the grocery store, but when I can just swing through and grab an iced tea, it turns into adding “just a salad” or a “TRY THIS NEW ITEM” thing, too. Now, my new self-rule is that if I want iced tea, I have to make it at home and bring it with me wherever I go, no matter what. You know what? I won’t die at 3pm if I can’t have tea until I get home at 6pm. No more blowing my chances! :-)

My favorite motto on this subject: if it’s not in the house, no one can eat it!

  10. Emergefit says:

Oh, there’s one more chance: buying it, unbagging it, shelving it, and then NOT eating it. That’s an exercise worth trying and I mean that. I once looked at a pint of Ben and Jerry’s every day for a month — without touching it. No joke, buying it and then NOT eating it is a great way to exercise our discipline. Hey, we’re all up for some more exercise, yes…?

You are so right. The worst is when you are shopping on an empty stomach, then EVERYTHING (even the really crappy stuff) looks appealing.

  13. So it’s not just me who has absolutely NO SELF CONTROL once something makes it’s way into my kitchen?

Actually, dark chocolate is tasty enough to enjoy, but not over-the-top fantastic, so that’s my go-to keep at home treat. Not that I haven’t OD ‘ed on that at times too.

“with longing” made me giggle :)

I don’t bring things I crave into my house unless I plan to eat it. Cuz I will. Oh yes. Oddly, ever since I worked in a chocolate factory chocolate has held no sway over me…except this cracked pepper lemon dark chocolate that you can only get in the UK…so there’s a whole ocean in the way and I’m OK :)
