Don’t believe the (bikini) hype? Eh, maybe. This is what Greedy Baby taught me. But don’t get too excited because the Bikini Body Challenge is STILL going strong.
Yet I did learn a very thought-provoking lesson from the baby that is Greedy. You can call it “bikini hype” or substitute if for any other kind of hype that is applicable to your life. Here’s how the lesson went (and it’s a short one, so keep your eyeballs reading):
Greedy Baby is inundated with images of pretty little princesses: on television and in movies; in books, toys, clothing and yada-yada-yada. The images are all around her. And I admit to feeding into this cute fantasy world of hers. So when this weekend’s egg hunt came around, complete with face painting festivities, I suggested she get her face painted into a princess. Did you notice?
So you see in the pic she was VERY happy immediately following the face-painting. But as the day went on, as she continued to check herself out in the mirror, Greedy Baby expressed her displeasure with the hype of being a princess.
She wanted her face back.
Her own face.
Her REAL face. So I wiped off all the princess paint.
The lesson here is to deeply consider what you’re striving for and why you’re shooting for it in the first place. Is it because you’ve been flooded with images that
demand suggest that’s who you should become?
Whatever you’re striving for, it’s cool! Just be sure you’re going after it for all the right reasons.
I’m glad Greedy Baby had the balls to insist on NOT being a princess. Even if it was only for that day (because she still rocks a mean pair of plastic princess heels on occasion).
