Tasting! Deep Chocolate Vita Muffin
December 2nd, 2010 • 39 Comments | Leave a Comment »
Deep Chocolate sounds like a porn movie cast with black people in it. But this isn’t about sexual encounters of the black people kind. It’s about Vita Muffins. The kind with 6 grams of fiber, 3 grams of protein and less sugar than an apple.
When I Facebooked that I’d be eating my first ever VitaMuffin in life, the responses ranged from “I wanna try”, to “They’re too expensive”, to “They’re so delicious”.
First of all, they ARE expensive. The miniature muffin is less than half the size of the big azz ones from the bakery. I also expected the miracle of that same taste a normal-regular muffin delivers with its sugary crap magic…. but I didn’t get any of that.
Deep Choco VitaMuffin is more of an acquired taste for having the name “muffin” attached to it. Why? Because it’s barely sweet. But I demand all Vita fans to NOT get pissed at me. I’m not complaining. I’m merely saying it’s not as sweet as I desired, yet I’m fascinated by the German Chocolate’y Cake experience.
It has deep, rich, quality choco taste that’s on par with the kind I’ve had at fancy restaurants. And I don’t know how the Vita people accomplish it, but the muffin is so moist, it should be called VitaCupcake. I had it at both room temperature and heated up (which is waaay better).
Feel free to ignore my b!tching about the lack of sugary sweetness. VitaMuffin’s ingredients make it way too impressive to not buy and chew on for yourself. If you’ve been putting off the Deep Chocolate VitaMuffin, go on and give it a try.

I love love love VitaTops! You’re correct though, it is an acquired taste and they’re not for everyone! Love them!
P.S. $4.29 is kind of cheap! I usually have to pay over 5 bucks for a 4 pack. Or order them online when they have free shipping. It’s kind of worth it though!

“$4.29 is kind of cheap”. Hmmm. You just exposed my level of cheapness on the cheap-o-meter. How rude!

@Josie, I had no idea they were that expensive when I won them. That must have been like a $60-$80 dollar pack they sent me.

I think I don’t need any more addictive food in my gullet [aka pantry]. I’m glad you liked it. Warm is always better with chocolate btw.
I was talking to Greedy Baby earlier, and told her she should say that. She said she’s always so nervous before they run the scene. ;) She’s hiding a cell phone under the matress in her crib. FYI.
Don’t tell her I told you. She scares me.

I have yet to try any of the VitaMuffins due to the price, which is really kind of crazy because I buy $1.49 Larabars all the time. Perhaps it’s time to invest.

I love muffins & even healthy ones but I think I am one of the few that ended up not even liking the Vita Tops & such and believe me, I LOVE the tops of the muffins & the end pieces of bread!

the ingredients dont seem THAT great!! the only ingredients in a muffin should be flour, milk, sugar, eggs, butter, baking powder, etc!!!

Amanda December 2nd, 2010 at 22:07
Vitamuffins < VitaTOPS. The tops are soooo much better. Basically a huge chewy brownie cookie thing. Easier to heat through and not "wet". This is the only muffin top you'll ever need!

They have a weird underrtaste to me…a “green” undertaste. I definitely would say it’s an acquired taste and best warmed up or toasted. Go fine with milk as a not-too-damaging snack. But “delicious” is not a word that really fits these. Suitable, okay, adequate, edible…not not delicious.

Warmed, with some vanilla ice-cream… now that’s yummy.

I’ve had vitamuffins before – they were decent, and I’d eat them again if someone gave them to me, but I don’t get why everyone RAVES about them. I would take my own homemade muffin over a vitamuffin any day. Although I DID enjoy the chocolatey-ness of the deep chocolate vitamuffin flavour

I have a friend who swears by them. But I never had the hankering to try them. First, I’m not a muffin girl to begin with so I don’t miss or crave muffins or cake. Second, it’s a processed, packaged food. The apple, despite having more sugar than the muffin, is a million times better for you then that muffin.

You pretty much summed up why I don’t like these things. I read such raves about them and was just let down. Maybe because I was expecting that something that looked like a cupcake or some kind of dessert would come close to tasting like one? I’ve tried 2 flavors and I’m not planning to try anymore.

i agree, they are sweet but certainly not as sweet as a slice of cake or holiday cookies. i typically do enjoy them, although sometimes can find them a bit dry, and agree that heated up they are better. i also like the vita tops better than the vita muffins!

I am completely and totally addicted to the VitaMuffins! Deep Chocolate, Apple Crumb, Banana Nut, Carrot Cake, Corn Muffin (not so great) and the VitaBrownie is my 9 year old daughter’s absolute favorite dessert for school lunches.
FYI: Deep Chocolate totally DOES sound like a porn movie involving black people!!

The store bought, already prepared variety are a bit pricey BUT you can buy the mix from their website and make your own at home with just water and egg white. They taste best after they’ve been frozen and defrosted.

I like them heated, with a small scoop of ice cream (and I do mean small – I use a cookie scoop that measures a 1/8 of cup.) And I do agree they are expensive, so I wait to order them when they have a deal, which is usually once a month or so. Not a daily thing for me, but a nice treat.
