Tasting! Kellogg's Simply Cinnamon Corn Flakes

I need two rodent claws, four cockroach fangs and one pair of mosquito wings. It’s gonna take some heavy artillery to get decent dibs on Kellog’s Simply Cinnamon Corn Flakes. The evil children attacked. They pounced on these flakes and pretty much stuffed the whole damn box down their greedy-azz throats. I only had one bowl, plus the crumbs left at the bottom to leave me in confusion.

This reinvention of the corn flake is different from its sister-original. If you open your eyeballs wide enough, you will notice a sweetened glaze that helps the cinnamon fuse to the flakes. It’s sweetened with 6 grams of sugar instead of 2 grams like the original flakes. Too bad the milk man-handles the cinnamon flavor until you can barely taste it at all. Yet the sweet flavor still lingers.

They’re pretty good, but Simply Sweetened Flakes is what these really are. If your pockets are dry, can make this at home for cheaper. Just sprinkle on the cinnamon and sugar, and chew.

Cinnamon on regular corn flakes?! That is a great idea! And cheaper too!

You’re a brave woman, Josie. I’m too set in my ways to try the wack-ass stuff out there and I just keep buying and making and eating the same old dreck I’m used to, because I like it and because I won’t get stuck with a box of something “yuck.”

For example, I caved and bought some zingers. I had wanted to – for years, maybe, and never did it. But it struck me, “What if I die suddenly and I will have spent the final five years of my life without even tasting one of those things? Where’s the virtue in that? Where’s the meaning in life if it’s all going to end that way, with me and no zingers?” So I bought some of them. Meaning, raspberry with coconut, in case there’s any question as to what real “zingers” are.

Turned out other people liked them too (I was counting on them shunning the coconut, but no, those pigs said, “They’re OK” while sucking them down) so I bought another box. For good measure I picked up a box of the vanilla-with-yellow-frosting they had slyly placed on the display next to the red ones, for no-self-control people like myself. It looked good – like a cross between a twinkie and a butterscotch krimpet.

It was not! The frosting was like shoe leather. Was this an aberration? Had the box sat in a fridge or in a warehouse for three months? I don’t know, but I’m sticking to the red stuff (Note that I won’t say “raspberry” because it doesn’t taste like r. to me, and good thing, because I hate stock-and-trade artificial r. flavored candy, cakes, or whatever.)

oh, btw, we drove through Delaware last week, and I thought briefly of you and what you might be eating! ;o) (We stopped at a BK that appeared to be in the process of being robbed so we moved on and took a layover at the Milford, DE Walmart. It was almost more excitement than we could handle.) They do have Sonics in DE, something not seen as far as I know in MD. Been there, ate that, don’t plan to eat there again (oh, the indigestion…)

Josie Reply:

Boo. Sonics are only in “slower” Delaware, as the lower part of Delaware is sometimes call. I’m up North.

Another cereal killer on the loose. Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

Cereal? Really? Why would anyone eat cereal? Oh, because it has sugar in it! They have you right where they want you…..

Why ruin a good thing.  Original corn flakes are so freaking good.  If I want cinnamon sugar I will eat toast or the equivalent cereal form.

I admit I have not had cornflakes in years. And when I do, I like sugar on top:)

Josie Reply:

I used to smather so much sugar on these flakes, there would be a sugar mountain at the bottom of the bowl. Those were the days….

Sounds like it had such promise! I have a weakness for cinn/sugar (I use Equal though).

So…they are basically Frosted Flakes?

[Reply]

Josie Reply:

Welp, the sweetness doesn’t punch you in the mouth THAT hard. But yeah, a toned down version of Frosted Flakes fo sho.

I looooooooooove cinnamon or cinnnamon sugar flavored things! But I hate when the flavor wears off in the milk. Like Cinnamon Life- I eat that dry only :)

Rita @ The Giggly Bits September 8th, 2010 at 11:44

But does it get soggy as fast as regular corn flakes? Cuz those things are 0 to sog in 2 seconds flat.  I never could eat them fast enough

[Reply]

Josie Reply:

I didn’t notice soggy. Guess it must be that sweetened glaze armor that protects from the milk. (now how slow do you eat exactly??)
