Diet Disaster: Fried Beer
September 3rd, 2010 • 10 Comments | Leave a Comment »
Who wants to get drunk and fried simultaneously? Or have you already done that? I predict fried water will be next. And then fried Kool Aid for the children-folks.
From Diets in Review via Telegraph UK:
Inventor Mark Zable said it took him three years to come up with a method to fry beer, but he has finally succeeded. The result of his effort is a ravioli-like squares of pretzel dough that are filled with beer and fried. “Nobody has been able to fry a liquid before. It tastes like you took a bite of hot pretzel dough and then took a drink of beer,” Zable says. Fried Coke does exist, but it is really a solid dough that’s Coke-flavored.
The deep-fried beer will officially be unveiled at an upcoming fried-food competition in Texas. Five of the squares will sell for $5.00. The Texas Alcoholic commission ruled that you must be over the age of 21 to taste it.
Aside from the fact that it sounds pretty gross (the beer is hot), it’s also sure to be super high in calories. Not only is beer high in carbs and calories from alcohol, the fact that it’s deep-fried means that it’s soaked in fatty oil.
We recommend that you steer clear of this calorie-laden curiosity.

I heard about this, too!!! I read some reviews of people that tasted it, and they said it sucked. Apparently the first bite you take out of it causes the beer on the inside (which is Guinness) to spill all over. Apparently you should stuff it all in your mouth! A new version stuffed with Shiner is in the works, according to what I’ve heard…
PS- When are you announcing the chip giveaway?? I am waiting with bated breath

I saw this & about barfed. And folks wonder why Americans are obese?. I will repeat what I said elsewhere – You could deep fry a tissue and the American public will eat it.
Stoooopid.

Sadly, you are right about the tissue-eating. Americans can be so lame sometimes.

I so wanted to try this!! I saw on the Travel Channel that last year’sTexas State fair had fried coke and also a fried dessert with dry ice in it (so you would breath out smoke after you eat it). I have only ever had fried cookie dough before and it was delicious. Would I try this?? Hell yeah!! Fried anything is normally good and I love beer. However, not sure how my body would take to much of fried anything anymore!

I agree with your other commenter that people in this country will eat just about anything. I will even go one step further than the tissue and say I’m convinced many will even eat a turd if it’s rolled in batter and deep fried.

Hmmm. Not sure why this guy thinks people want to eat (drink?) fried beer. Not appetizing in the least.

Wow, I have never seen this – I’m not surprised though, what hasn’t been fried yet?!?!…
