I Gnaw on Trashy Breakfast For Good Health

That’s right, people. My breakfast produces A LOT of trash. It’s a tough job to prep the food amidst the shrieks of Greedy Baby while the funk fumes radiate from my freshly sweaty workout clothes. But a girl’s gotta eat right. And I can no longer deal with the quick ‘n easy processed eats for breakfast.

I aim to go as minimally processed as possible.

Some say that’s Clean Eating, but I call it Trashy, baby!

I gnaw on the kind of breakfast that results in a heap of trash. The kind that takes sacrificial time to prep. The kind that makes my body love me back with vibrance and energy and strength and umm…. a happy colon.

Behold the trash from this morning’s breakfast – sweet potato skins with the slaughtered remains of a watermelon. Ya, I eat sweet potato chips in the morning. Just peel, slice, sprinkle with sea salt, and bake at 425 degrees for about 15 minutes.

Then there’s the watermelon. I used to be real lazy about cuttin’ up the fruit. But laziness results in muffin tops, lethargy, and the denial of wearing sexy summer dresses, so that habit is officially broken.

But what about a minimally processed breakfast that results in less trash, and is less time to prep and cook?

Go for some Banana Oats. It’s a 1/2 cup of oats cooked in 1 cup of Almond milk. Mix in a squashed banana before you take it off the stove, and whoallah! Banana Oats are da bomb. And the banana peel will make it trash-worthy.

I highly recommended you sharpen the claws of your teeth and go eat a trashy breakfast.

So now it’s your turn. Share you trashy breakfast tips! That is, unless you are a Processed Food-Lovin’ Predator?

Haw-haw-Haw-Hawesome!!

Trashy?  I  like to trash my farmers’ market berry patch.  They just don’t sell me enough berries.  It’s like they don’t want me to get addicted.  Or get the runs.  Sheesh.

Dang though, they make me give those back.  Not trash.  My family size yogurt lasts two days.  I make my own granola.  DANG.  No trash there either.  And I sound like a tree hugger Martha Stewart…

Crap.

My breakfasts are normally only trashy due to fruit. I am a total “toast” kind of girl, which doesn’t create any trash because I eat every.last.bite. I buy bread from the bakery, so it’s not the processed garbage.

Sweet potato chips for breakfast?? That’s a new one. I wish I had time for that…I just love my sleep too much.

I’m totally with you! I love making as much trash as possible for breakfast. In the winter, I’m all about oat bran with almond butter, jam, and fruits. In summer, I alternate between sprouted grain muffins with almond butter and fruit; over easy eggs (BIG MESS), and goat yogurt with granola, berries and puffins. Have you ever tried goat yogurt? Its awesome. PS. Your blog is fantastic! Bookmarking.

I would like to point out that all of your trash from this breakfast is biodegradable which means YOU LOVE EARTH! Captain Planet, next avatar…just sayin’. You + Blue Mullet = WORLD GONE WILD.

oh em gee, yes! Captain Yucky. If you can find a blue mullet that would be awesome. And your greedy kids can be earth, fire, etc. Love it.

Trashy breakfast LOL that is a good one! I like fresh strawberries, plain yogurt and a little Trader Joe’s Morning Glory sprinkled on top.

My go to breakfast is omelet (1 whole egg w/ 2 whites) with some cheese, and a fruit smoothie with some Almond Breeze. I guess the egg shells are the trashy part.

Mine isn’t trashy but more of dishwashery. I measure out of a lot of things so it causes the dishes to pile up.

I really like steel cut oatmeal, but I fail to pre-make it on a regular basis. I like the sweet potato idea…breakfast is a difficult meal for me for some reason.

I got a lot of smelly trash too! In fact, I usually have to empty it before the bag is even full!

Yummy! I must try the sweet potato chips. I’m not a fruit person, so breakfast usually consist of egg whites and toast.

I normally get in ruts with my food. Getting in an eating schedule (guess from my past). But my breakfast results in no trash! PB Toast! It is my absolute favorite breakfast. I always measure my PB too. I even wash off my knife and scooper so it gets 2 uses before heading in the dishwasher!

Eating real food does make a lot of trash! And take a bit of time! But it’s so worth it! This week’s brekkie of choice is steel cut oats with chopped fresh mango, cinnamon, protein powder and a splash of honey. I’m an oatmeal loving fanatic!

Not only are you feeding yourself…you could be feeding your compost too! All that trashy trash looks just perfect for starting your own compost!
I loved this post. Probably one of the best Ive read all month—and youre right, about laziness…I have half a watermelon (that snickers at me when I open the fridge) that I now PROMISE to cut up tonight!! See, you just saved a watermelon!

Sweet potatoes for breakfast! That’s hardcore. I’ll either have eggs (shells, trash yes?) or oatmeal (always with a trashy banana). :)

Everyone keeps talking about almond milk. I really should try some. My breakfast is not trashy. It is usually ezekiel 4:9 cereal w soymilk and dried cranberries (except for when we have fresh strawberries at home, then I slice those in instead). And a cup of tea and water. The only trash comes when the cereal box or cranberry bag or milk carton are empty. Oh and from the teabag.
