Taste Test: Special K Protein Shake

Kprotein

“No people, not the Booty Shake. That’s your own business”.

Are you that son of a beast who can’t wait until your next meal? Where are my whiners with hunger pangs galore? I searched for the Special K Protein Shake and finally found it. It’s a magical concoction with the power to make your gastric juices churn with delight.

I’m not the one to drink calories on the regular, but the delectable goodness of the Special K Protein Shake cannot be ignored. It’s smooth, thick, and creamy with a perfect blend of sweet as it tickles your taste buds and sloshes down past the esophagus in a lovely milk shake-type experience (gulp). It’s going to keep you happy so forget about the loud arse, embarrassing stomach growl. That noisy baby will be put to sleep.

I’m shocked to admit this is the first product in the history of my eating food that I do not mind contains sucralose. It’s just too damn
good for me to even care. Add to the ingredients and an infusion of whey protein concentrate and soy protein isolates to deliver 10 grams of protein (plus 5 grams of fiber), and you’ll be in a happy dance to the tasty tune of Milk Chocolate, French Vanilla, or Strawberry flavor.

I chose Strawberry. It smelled good, tasted delicious, and helped me refocus my day to prevent another foodie FAIL episode. The Special K brand is definitely on a roll at Yum Yucky. First the Multi-grain Crackers, then the Protein Meal Bar, and now the Protein Shake.

Find it. Buy it. Drink it. Love it.

Thanks for trying this for us! I’ve wanted to try this, but had flashes of Slim-Fast in my mind. I’ll give it a try.

Hmm…they’re expensive though! I’m not sure I’ll go out of my way to get these, but if you’ve got any to spare, you’re welcome! ;-)

Well I guess it is good for anybody that goes to the gym or exercises frequently. it can be a fabulous post workout snack. It has a good quantity of proteins that will help you build muscles and repair your body.

I’m glad you and the family liked it, Josie.
It looks like this would be a good postworkout meal in a pinch. I have to say I’m shocked by the amount of sodium in this sucker (not in a good way) but also shocked by the amount of fiber in this sucker (in a good way).
Thanks for the review of this shake, shake, shake!

I love Special K products. They are like the poor mans health products lol. Compare it to other protein or health products and it is normally the cheaper one. Good for people on a budget!

Do not think I ahve ever tried anythign special k other than ceereal…no wait I DID just try some crackers of theirs last week…were surprisingly good.
Might have to give these a try(gulp at the price though!)but would only be a rare occasion…like a grab and go need for meal.

I wonder how this would taste over a bowl of Special K cereal? Too thick?

[Reply]

Josie October 16th, 2009 at 9:51

I can appreciate the greedy road you’re trying to walk down, but no, it’s too thick for cereal.

[Reply]

Linda October 16th, 2009 at 9:59

hmm….too thick for cereal, then how about “thinning” it out with some milk? At $2 a pop and with greedy children liking them, I’m gonna need to try to stretch em out around here!
Of course, there will be no “watering down” of any I consume!
(that’s my greedy-ness speaking)

I wonder how good a substitute this would make for my typical McDonald’s Parfait breakfast, though this costs about twice as much….

oooh, I just had a friend ask me about those and I hadn’t tried them! I will direct her here!

I’m not one to drink my calories either, but since you said it’s pretty yummy I’ll have to keep these in mind when I start bumping up the calories during half marathon training…

maria October 16th, 2009 at 20:24

Those look delicious, but are more than I would be willing to pay.
I don’t typically drink my calories. It’s a rare occurrence!

I’ve seen these and thought about giving them a go. I like you, prefer to eat vs. drink my calories- but I think this would be perfect if you got stuck in a meeting or something. Have a good weekend

definitely price is downside to this, but i could see what mizfit said about blending it with fruit or other things. seems like a decent size to maybe slitting a bottle into two servings, and thereby lowering the cost of a serving.
glad to know they taste good though :) might be a great thing to grab and go when i work my 14 hr days!!

Josie October 17th, 2009 at 9:23

You’re right about splitting it into two servings. I’m just remembering that I could finish the whole bottle – but not because I didn’t want to, it’s just thick and filling.

180 cal is not bad.. and nice fibre content. I’m not one to drink my calories either, unless there’s alcohol content. :) Good to know tho!

It sounds like this went over well.
