Taste Test: Herr's Kettle Cooked Mesquite BBQ Chips

Nope. This is not an accident. Do not adjust your computer screen or attempt to Windex your eyeglasses.
I did indeed chomp on Herr’s Kettle Cooked Mesquite BBQ Chips, but it’s all for the good of the people. This is not only a Taste Test. It’s a lesson in junk food portion control. At some point in the future (unless you’re non-human?) won’t we all give in to a split second of tasty junkie pleasure? You need to be prepared.
Herr’s Mesquite chips are damn good; one of the best barbecue chips to ever meet my taste buds. The mesquite is awesome with it’s smokey flair and perfect mix of paprika, garlic, and tomato spices, plus something called “grill flavor” (what the the hell is that?). These are quality chips. They’re thick, loaded with rich flavor, and pack an extra crunch.
But here’s the best part. I ate less than the serving size. Meaning, less than 13 chips. The power of the potato chip did not crush my ability to stay in control. My method was to NOT eat straight out the bag. The chips went onto my plate next to the sandwich. When they were gone, they were gone. I was offered more, but kindly declined.
I’m aware of the health food type chips that aren’t really potato chips, but if we’re talking real chips with real good flavor for the person who can really stay in control, go get yourself some Herr’s Kettle Cooked. It won’t kill you to indulge with control.

I like these, but I like Cape Code’s Mesquite Sweet BBQ Chips better. I think the nutrition is better to and the serving size is more chips. As for “healthy” chips, the best are Kettle BRand Baked. They use actual potatoes (not the flake crap)and great seasonings. Honestly, considering everyone fried chips in “good for you” oil these days, I don’t know why anyone would want to eat most “baked chips” in the first place. Caloricaly they are basically the same.

Oh gosh, I tried Herr’s chips for the very first time this summer during a trip to PA. As a self proclaimed chip addict, I declare Herr’s as the best chips I’ve ever eaten. The salt & vinegar chips are just simply divine. Oh how I hate that they don’t sell them in my state. Josie, look what you’ve done, I’m gonna see if I can order some online.

We don’t have Herr’s here. But we do have Boulder chips. Yum. I agree with you on the portion control issue. Real food just satisfies better.

OH I love Kettle Chips – but the plain and the salt/vinegar. Yum. and I do exactly what you do – onto the plate and count’em. Thanks for the review.

Kettle chips are the BEST! We get a garlic flavoured one here in SA (can’t remember the brand name…) which is SUPER good. My problem is I usually end up demolishing the entire bag. I’ll have to remember the plate tip.

Chips are something I don’t say no to when I really want them. I’m like you in that I really can eat a serving or less. The salt and crunch is enough to give me the flavor without feeling I have to go overboard!

They sound tasty that is for sure! Good for you to staying portion controlled! That’s a hard thing for me to do with chips. Very hard!

I don’t think I have seen this brand here but I usually don’t look for chips since they are not something that calls to me. They sure sound good though!!!! AND, congrats on that portion control! It is oh so important! You done good but that does not surprise me at all!

Can you change the “servings per container” to 1? No? Dang it!
Never met a Kettle Chip I didn’t like

Grill flavor! Eureka! That must be what’s been missing when I try to make BBQ flavor baked potato wedges. I will go scrape the blackness off my grill into a bowl immediately for future use. (not…)

I’m not a big chips person, but when I do have them, I always LOVE the kettle chips!

I am glad you are putting yourself out there for the people!
I am having serious problems with portion control. 1 Bag = 1 Serving….right?

Man, I go nuts at the sight of Kettle Brand Chips. Honestly, I lose all desire to be healthy when I get one of these bags in my little hands, and I hate to admit that I have no ability to reside within the one portion range. However, however! I only buy these, and since they’re so rare, I only eat them like once every couple of months. So maybe it balances out?
