Taste Test: Thomas' Breakfast Bread
September 8th, 2009 • 13 Comments | Leave a Comment »
Excuse me for the raggedy condition of the package, but when my greedy eyeballs zoned in on the nooks and crannies in Thomas’ Breakfast Bread (aka, Toasting Bread) I had to get my fill….quick.
I realize this blasphemous act of carbohydrate fanfare may be unacceptable, but only half of me wanted to overindulge, so the strength of the carbs is actually 50% less effective.
Breakfast Bread is hearty and thick, like Texas toast, but takes on the good flavor of an English Muffin. Don’t be fooled by the firm, stale-like texture when you pull a slice from the package. It toasts beautifully with a crisp exterior and warm, soft center.
I was happy to fuse my slice(s) with melted buttery goodness, but I also hear it’s awesome for
French toasting and works wonders for Egg in a Basket. This stuff isn’t for cold turkey sandwiching. When Breakfast Bread meets Toaster the sparks are gonna fly. But please, not the electrical kind. Safe toasting is required.

It’s not a brand new bread, but my grocer just caught on. Be sure to set your eyeballs to “SCAN” when you hit the bread aisle.
Thomas’ Breakfast Bread is a must-do experience.
Reactions from the Taste Test Crew
Health-hater Husband: Definitely a toasting bread. I wonder how it tastes with grilled cheese?
Greedy Kid #1: It doesn’t get hard like an English muffin can.
Yum UP! to: Nooks and crannies in a Texas toast body.
Yuck Down to: Stores who don’t carry Breakfast Bread. Get with it already!

I like my bread thin sliced unless it is french toast, but I’d give these a try. Where’s the PB!?

Crap, you know I love bread!!!! Is it whole grain flour or white. I must look in my grocery store! Wish it had more fiber though. I always look for at least 3-5 grams of fiber per slice of bread but that does look dang delicious & the way you described it, even more so!

One of my close friend use to say always that whenever you like a food and you are hungry eat until you are satisfied and your hunger totally gone without thinking about obesity and other health probs..But I argue with him that prevention is better than cure and eating in a controlled way is always good…
Anyway thanks for your wonderful information.
Thanks

I think I ate 6 slices over 3 days (2 slices per day/180 calories per day). Not terrible, but still more than planned. I didn’t know it was going to be that good. Can’t buy this every week. I’ll have to make it a treat.

When I saw the nooks & crannies through the plastic package at the store, I got too excited. Husband said I sounded like a commercial. I was drawing attention, so he walked away from me real fast. Ooops. (but now I wanna be in a commercial)

“only half of me wanted to overindulge, so the strength of the carbs is actually 50% less effective” – just wondering, has this been scientifically proven???

OMG life cereal is sooo dusty at the bottom. if you getthe life cinnamon: the only one worth eating, the last 1/4 is ALL SUGAR and CINNAMON DUST. kashi go lean crunch dust is like crazy tooo.. hahah. sometimes i just want to sieve all my cereal to avoid the DUST STORM.

Texas toast was my favorite bread when I was little! So, what I’m getting is that this is like a cross between TX Toast and English Muffin?

Excuse me, but who made this claim? It sounds preposterously believable. We don’t need science.
