Taste Test: Cracker Jack Butter Toffee Rice Cakes

Ricecakes Who wants their whole grain goodness glazed over with butter toffee-fication for a Cracker Jacked experience? I tried to be a hater of Quaker Cracker Jack Butter Toffee Rice Cakes, but the FAIL button kept going off. Now that I’m done swallowing my foodie hater pride, I’m happy to tell you I’m impressed with Quaker’s tasty magic trick that delivers only 4 grams of sugar and 0.5 grams of fat. They really pulled it off.

I trust that you don’t dwell in Bizarre-O-World full time and you do indeed know what Cracker Jacks taste like. Quaker’s Butter Toffee version is a toned down Cracker Jack (minus the nuts) with a bit of the rice cake flavor coming through. It’s sticky, but won’t get stuck in your teeth, and qualifies as a low calorie lethal weapon to battle your sweet tooth cravings. They’re only 60 calories each, so even if you inhale 2 or 3, chances are you won’t annihilate your healthy food program for the day. Oh, how I love to eat healthy (umm, uh huh).

Warning! The picture on the package depicts the rice cake with icing and caramel drizzle, but it doesn’t come that way. You have to follow the recipe on the back to make it look like that. The Quaker people tricked me, but I’m not mad about it anymore.

Reactions from the Taste Test Crew

Health-hater Husband: Oh yeah, I like that. It’s a big, round Cracker Jack. Give me another with some coffee. It’s like I’m not even eating a rice cake.

Greedy Kid #1: Mmm. I love that it’s sweet, but not too sweet. It’s an even balance.

Greedy Kid #2: What’s a Cracker Jack?

Greedy Kid #3: I don’t want Apple Jack flavor. (no dude, it’s Cracker Jack!)

Greedy Kid #4: She sucked the butter toffee off the rice cake until it was Baby Slobber Soggy.

Yum UP! to: Low calorie lethal weapons.

Yuck Down to: Baby slobber.

If you’re greedy for more Cracker Jack-ish commentary, check out these showdowns: Cracker Jack vs. Smart Food Popcorn Clusters and Cracker Jack vs. Crunch ‘n Munch. The battle is on, but I’m sticking with the 60 calorie rice cake.

My oldest three aren’t big fans of rice cakes, but the youngest four love them. Of course they end up dropping the crumbs on the floor, but I guess that’s my fault for letting them walk around with food!!
Have a great day.

I believe you when you say baby was drooling, I saw her sweet face in a picture this weekend. She couldn’t be any cuter.
Thanks for the heads up on the picture of the rice cakes versus reality. Helpful!

I can’t wait to find these in my store…sounds so delish! But, I am glad to hear from you that they don’t look like the front of the package before I bought them, because I would have been SUPREMELY disappointed! YUM!

Ow! That giveaway sounds fantastic. I will be on the lookout. I love rice cakes but usually go from the plain/salt free (I know, I’m a party ;) ) and then I top them with a little honey or PB. Maybe I’ll do something super special and try these ;)
AH! Wish I knew you lived so close to philly airport! Where are you from exactly? Josh grew up there
