Taste Test: Yoplait Parfait Bites

Parfait As my motto goes, “free food tastes better than food you pay for”, so it was impossible to refuse Free Sample Lady when she forced me eat a Yoplait Parfait Bite. So how is it when I debit-carded my very own box of Parfait Bites, they tasted even better?

Every sweet & tasty bite is a one-inch cluster of non-fat frozen yogurt with strawberry flavored filling coated in crunchy rolled oats. But beware! These Bites also double as junk food because one the main ingredients is sugar, but I’m comfortable with my decision to ignore his major minor flaw since the frozen yogurt contains live and active cultures.

I lean on a stash of kinda-healthy cereal as my #1 go-to snack to take the edge off a sugar temptation for less than 200 calories. Yoplait Parfait Bites could easily become my runner up, but no way I’ll indulge every night. It’s way too easy to eat more than the 5-bite, 150 calorie
serving size, not to mention the hefty price tag.

Parfait Notes

  • Price Paid: $8.99
  • Package Contents: 10 pouches containing 5 bites each
  • Calories: 150 for 5 bites (30 calories per bite)
  • Fat Calories: 60
  • Total Fat: 7g
  • Sodium: 35mg
  • Carbs: 19g
  • Fiber: Less than 1g
  • Sugars: 13g
  • Protein: 2g

Reactions from the Taste Test Crew

Health-hater HusbandI don’t like it. It tastes like crap.

Greedy Kid #1 - Mmm. It’s got a fruity ice cream taste.

Greedy Kid #2 - I like the crunchy outside and the fruit in the ice cream (he didn’t know it was yogurt).

Greedy Kid #3I don’t want it.

Yum UP! to: Pseudo-junk food with live and active cultures.

Yuck Down to: Sugar as a main ingredient.

YIKES! Lots of money for them treats! I’ll take a Golden Spoon yogurt instead!!! Well, I really want a cookie but for a healthier treat option, Golden Spoon is fine with me! OK, I really want my cookie!! :-)

Damn girl you paid $8.99 for that? It seems like it would be a “danger” food. A food where you would be hungry and think oh well these look healthy, but the one pouch doesn’t leave you satisfied so you keep on going back for more. Just be careful girl :P

I picked ‘em up at Costco and had pretty much the same reaction you did: not bad in the taste dept, not so good in the health or value dept.

Holy $8.99!!! That’s insane!… I’m just sayin’

Damn! is right. Gotta be careful. But last night I only ate 2 for the Taste Test – that’s 60 calories. Then I just kicked much booty in a medicine ball workout this morning. I’m sweaty. (ewww) Time to shower the funkiness off.

Josie Maurer July 21st, 2009 at 9:32

That’s how they get ya. The lady wearing the cafeteria hair net gives samples for free around the store to sucker you into a purchase.

YIIIKES Sounds like a whole lotta money for a whole lotta sugar.

Still lurking, er, um, reading your blog Josie. I hate to scare the bejebus out of your readers, but Yoplait and Dannon are users of the Carmine food coloring. What is Carmine you ask? It’s the dried shells from the females cochineal beetle that are pulverized. It’s how they make the reddish color. Yes, you’re eating beetle parts and juice. It’s in more than just the strawberry products.
I saw it on a story on CNN about how companies use different names for ingredients so you don’t know what you’re really eating. Google Yoplait and carmine and you’ll get plenty of hits to choose from while doing your own research. Check the label is all I can say about these yogurt bites. I checked the yoplait website and couldn’t find these bites even listed nor could I find ingredients listed for any of their products.
I love me some yogurt, but I’m sticking with organic now.

Yay! Teresa is back! Well, let’s see. I need more protein but, ewww, beetle bodies aren’t exactly what I had in mind. I used to eat Dannon yogurt before calling yogurt quits all together, but now I’ve taking a liking to the frozen kind and still considering a dabble with Greek.
If we were in other parts of the world where bug eating is on the daily menu, the info you just gave us would probably cause sales to skyrocket! But this is America….and I’m about to be grossed out (after I finish the box off).
Now everybody go Google “Yoplait and carmine”. Ewww! (thanks Teresa!)

Great review, and thanks for including the (ouch) price! Think I’ll get my active cultures elsewhere, and truly enjoy my sugar-filled treats.

Co-worker brought in a box that had over a dozen mini bags of about 3 in each-the entire staff devoured them with smiles (with comments like, “Is this really yogurt?”). Only time I ever we snuck into staff freezer and took some thing without first asking first. Bad part was, went to find a local stores to replace (was told Sam’s Club would have them) who reported, “we no longer carry as didn’t sell well enough”. Total Bummer! All 4 of my kids got one taste, which they inhaled. All four of them under age 9 of age, of which 3 actually will normally eat yogurt -calling these “chicken nuggets”, that taste like “ice-cream cookies”.) I think a better substitute than those dozen O re os. One dad.

Robin April 2nd, 2010 at 15:21

According to the lady at the Camp Pendleton Commissary, these have been discontinued. I got 2 boxes for $0.99 each! I would NEVER pay 8.99 for them, but I wish I could have fit more in my freezer, as I would have purchased more boxes at this price. Really yummy and totally kid friendly, but super hard to only eat 5!

jordyn April 11th, 2010 at 13:12

they also have them at sams club (:

Do you want to swallow this?! Imagine eating yoghurt eaten out of dog’s rear!

Ewwwwwwww! Light and Fit doggish model or actress sounds and looks like my dog licking his! She may love it but it would be less disgusting to eat yoghurt out of any other container … or no yoghurt at all!

Disgusting yuck!

The Yoplait Parfait bites were great. Can you please tell me where I can find them? My newphew is a very, very, picky eater there are only three things he will eat. Amazingly he tried the yoplait bites and he loved them. I can add this to his foods of likes if I can find where to buy more.

I just bought a bag at WalMart…they are amazing! It was impossible to only eat a reasonable number, though. But at 30 calories a bite, I figured even if I eat ten, I guess I could consider that a meal:>)

Sarah February 26th, 2012 at 2:17

My weight watchers leader brought this in as his weekly food find… I am so excited to try them because for the quantity they are a good point plus value. (8 points for 5 bites). The problem? I can’t find them anywhere! Even yoplait.com doesn’t talk about them on their website. Devastated!
