Taste Test: Eggo Whole Wheat Waffles
July 31st, 2009 • 18 Comments | Leave a Comment »
You better Leggo My Eggo! Somebody from Nutri Grain threw some brownish
tint and grainy specks on a bunch of Eggos and slapped the words “Whole Wheat” and “Whole Grain” on the box. So it is legit?
Ahh, yes it is. A regular Eggo can only meet up with my mouth out of hungry
desperation, but their wheaty Nutri-Grain version is a healthier on-the-go option. It’s taste resembles wheat bread, but there’s no mistake that you’re eating a waffle. It’s also denser and did a great job of quenching my post-dinner hunger pangs (plain, no syrup).
But for all my friends who have Kashi Waffles on the brain, I’ll be happy to try those when the lame stores in my area start selling them. Kashi’s Mercedes Benz nutritional profile makes Eggo Whole Wheat look like a 1970′s Gremlin.

Health-hater Husband - Reminds me of buckwheat pancakes.
Greedy Kid #2 – Mom, I’m only trying this as a favor to you…eh, tastes nasty.
Yum UP! to: Brownish tints and grainy specks….but only on food.

$4.29 seems kind of expensive? Or is it me??? Making waffles/pancakes at home is so cheap…hmm Glad you enjoyed them though!

Sounds good, but that sodium looks a little high. I love the Kashi waffles. They totally fill you up, which is great. But the only store that sells them in my area is the overpriced fancypants Kroeger chain. I love that they have better options for those of us who give a rip about nutrition, but hate that I’d have to take a second job to shop there. Heart Healthy Bisquick it is … *sigh*

Ya I’m with the other ladies. These don’t really do anything for me. Can’t wait to see the Kashi review!

Will stick with the Kashi, but thanks for asking.

i have been eating these for a couple years now; i prefer the whole wheat with blueberry since i don’t add syrup; the “berries” give it a bit more flavor.
as for $4.29 price tag, i only buy them when they go on sale: 2 boxes for $5! i catch that sale every month or so and stock up. my kids eat the plain ones so i stock up on those too. yay waffles!
i’ll keep an eye out for the kashi ones.

I still love all my variety of breads!!!! I am a bread person…. well, one of them big ole thick waffles at the specialty house would be OK BUT I don’t think that is what we are talking about here!
I tried some of those “better” waffles on my not so into health hubby too… he felt like your group! Needed to put more syrup on it to make his day!

Hmm that seems pricey. I get the blueberry ones for husband {gag} and I’m pretty sure I pay $1.99 or so for them… hmmmm
I like english muffins. Did that sound uppity? oops

I do want a waffle maker, but busting out the homemade kind for hungry kid at 10 p.m. (when he should be asleep!) is kinda inconvenient. And yes, I pay way too much for groceries.

I’m on the hunt for a waffle maker, too! I make a mean protein pancake but would love to transform them into waffles, make them into big batches, and pop them in the freezer. That way, I could just pop them in the micro, toaster and go!

i have a waffle maker (circa 1989) but it takes 20 min to warm up, and another 10 to make two waffles (which are HUGE) never mind making the batter. I’d rather be able to pop one in the toaster.
I’ve never tried either…and will look for them. Kashi would be PERFECT… I’ll have to bug my local grocer. Thanks!

I love these! I have been known to eat them “naked” (aka no butter, no syrup) for dinner!

These look great! I’ll have to check them out and compare them to the Kashi GOLean waffles in Strawberry Flax. I’ll have 2 in the morning with frozen blueberries and a banana…a great breakfast. The best part is that 2 waffles only have 160 calories.

My wife and I love the different nutrigrain options of eggo waffles, especially the blueberry. We generally love kashi cereals and bars, but their waffles are more like licking the mercedes as well as having a gungho nutritional content.

I love them. I didnt think they would be tasty but they are. The are priced lower at Walmart. Along with the Kelloggs Fiber Plus Bars, these are great for my system.
Enjoy!
