Taste Test: Ronzoni 7-Grain Pasta Blend
June 23rd, 2009 • 5 Comments | Leave a Comment »
The battle is on! It’s Nasty White Flour Pasta versus 7-Grain Blend. Needless to say, White Flour just got the bleach knocked out of it.
“But, Josie, a pasta Taste Test is so boring.” Eh, maybe. But Husband is loving Ronzoni Healthy Harvest 7-Grain Blend Pasta. Either pigs are flying or this stuff is a food miracle designed to convert hard core enemies of health.
Forget about regular whole wheat pasta. I don’t like that stuff and it never seems to get past al dente, even when it’s boiled for eons. Ronzoni 7-Grain’s
“unique recipe combines the goodness of seven whole grains with wheat fiber and flaxseed (a natural source of Omega-3)”. Ingredients listed on the label also include dark rye, triticale (it’s high in protein), oat, buckwheat, and barley flours, plus whole corn meal.
There’s probably some kind of super pasta equivalent at the health food
store, but Ronzoni 7-Grain is easily accessible at the regular ‘ole grocer, and it’s cheap.
It smells delicious right out of the box and gets a natural aroma whirling about the house as it cooks. Ronzoni adds tons of flavor to any pasta dish without the need for a concoction of spices, and you’ll probably fill up quicker compared to eating the same portion of white or whole wheat pasta. It would be great if Ronzoni came out with 7-grain bread. They obviously know what they’re doing!

Health-hater Husband’s Reaction: “It’s not grainy like I imagined. It’s smooth and flavorful. I’m on the greedy side, but a little goes a longer way thanĀ regular pasta to fill me up. I love the flavor and I don’t miss white flourĀ pasta. You’re missing out if you don’t try this stuff.”
Yum Up! to: Picking up the box of Ronzoni by accident. It was the best foodie mistake I’ve ever made.
Yuck Down! to: White flour pasta. Why was I eating that crap for so long?

Fantastic – I’ve been trying to switch and have found nothing that the boy-f and kiddies will eat. Gonna try this one.

Why, thank you for this review! Seriously, I’ve been burned by whole wheat pasta in the past enough to not want to try anything new, but I’ll give this a whirl.
Flaxseed + triticale = crazy delicious!
