Taste Test: Land-O-Lakes Butter with Olive Oil

LandO

Smooth Creamy Butter begins to melt. She yearns for the embrace of Hot & Fresh Roll as he exits the oven. But wait. Olive Oil enters the room, suave and debonaire. He catches the eye of Smooth Creamy Butter and she’s hooked. They touch…intertwine…become one.

Alright, that’s enough! This isn’t a Harlequin saga featuring the lovebirds Butter and Olive Oil. It’s food, and I’m just catching on to the blending trend. I did my research and discovered that Smart Balance also has an olive oil blend, and here’s a recipe to make your own concoction. So what’s the new Land-O-Lakes’ version like?

It doesn’t have the full-fledged buttery taste and aroma that I love, but I was wrong to expect that. It has a sweet taste and creamy texture with hints of olive oil flavor. It’s a totally new breed; not quite butter, not quite olive oil. Hmmm….is it Bolive Boil?

Bolive Boil isn’t a hard block like regular butter. It spreads very well straight from the fridge. Once it’s on the bread or sits out in the container for a short while it takes on a slightly melted, oily consistency. This probably has to do with the olive oil and I don’t consider it a negative, but the saltiness is through the roof. That’s a double negative!

Land-O-Lakes says their blend is great for cooking, but I only tried it on a multi-grain roll. Okay, several rolls, and I didn’t get the complete butter bread experience I longed for. The flavor is unique and may take some getting used to. I like it enough to finish the container, but not so much that I’ll buy it on a regular basis. Despite that, you should give it a try because it’s a new food experience that you just might love.

Yum Up! to: The benefits of olive oil. Read about it.

Yuck Down! to: Smooth Creamy Butter. I don’t like the way she treated Hot & Fresh Roll…after all he’s done for her!

As always, you are brave to try all this stuff. I am not a butter person. I love my bread/rolls plain & toasted & relish in that experience! :-)

Bolive Boil??? LMAO!
I’m surprised that it’s salty. Weird.

I used it again in cooking. Smothered a bit on some warm asparagus. Nice flavor!

As with strength training and cardio, I never liked the old par course concept of doing it all together. Although sparingly, I use these two separately. I don’t think they are a mixed taste.
I’m with you on the sodium.
