Taste Test: Lean Cuisine Szechuan Stir Fry Shrimp

See that picture to the right? That’s what happens when yours truly gets Greedy for lunch, but forgets to snap a fully intact picture of the box for all you wonderful, hungry people – I had to dig it out the trash.
I bought a few of these especially for Health-hater Husband, but they haven’t moved from the freezer in a week, so I’m diggin’ in (here’s a pic of Hubby &
Greedy Baby).
You’ve got the green light to get excited about Lean Cuisine Szechuan Style Stir Fry with Shrimp, because it’s loaded with fresh, crisp veggies and shrimp that are far from microscopic. But whoa…back it up a sec. I had to cook this meal
almost 2 minutes longer than prescribed because most of the shrimp was
still raw after following the cooking directions.
Caution: If you are boring and bland, and like your food the same way, this dish is not for you. Szechuan Style Stir Fry is a flavor powerhouse. It goes beyond regular spices because it also includes apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, chile garlic sauce, brown sugar syrup, and ginger puree. This delivers a nice sweet & spicy flavor, but not overly spicy. It’s got the perfect amount of heat that won’t torture your taste buds and leave you clamoring for a bucket of water to pour down your throat like those darn Healthy Choice Sweet Asian Potstickers.
On top of the sauce’s amazing flavor is the natural, appetizing taste of a crisp snap pea (yes, there was only one), baby corn, carrots, red peppers, yellow carrots and shrimp. I feared the shrimp would be soft and water logged, but they were fresh and cooked just right. And I got seven pieces! I also appreciate the noodles that delivered a wonderful whole grain taste. It’s hard to believe that this meal only costs 230 calories. Lean Cuisine goes on sale pretty regularly, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to pick this up for
cheap. I highly recommend you give it a try.

…and isn’t ironic that Health-hater Husband grabbed this dish for dinner while I was writing the Taste Test. He says it’s “super flavorful with nice heat and juicy, plump shrimp, but watch the cooking time.”
Yum Up! to: Awesome flavor that kicks booty … Anyone who can correctly pronounce the word, “Szechuan”
Yuck Down! to: Raw, undercooked shrimp…don’t eat it like that.

I highly recommend this meal. I just finished it and it is by far the best one. I usually pack one of the Lean Cuisines for lunch if I didn’t cook anything the previous night and this one was very very good. I had like 5 snap peas in mine though…
