Taste Test: Emerald Breakfast Trail Mix

Treehuggers and hikers come to mind whenever I think of trail mix. I don’t go camping and my Greenpeace card is permanently revoked, so why do I care about Emerald Breakfast on the Go Trail Mix? Well, the box was pretty and it said “new” on the front. A lame reason, but eh, so what.
The Emerald box sat on my shelf for over a month due to a condition of mine
called “I don’t give a damn about that trail mix”, but I got hungry and it was the closest, quickest thing available, so thank my hunger pangs for this Taste Test.
I opened the pouch and was immediately put off by what appeared to be a sugary glaze coating on the nuts and nasty looking yogurt covered raisins. I wanted to retreat, but I used mind control to force down a few pieces….Ooo-la-la! This stuff is good! It’s a “breakfast blend of apple chips, dried cranberries, glazed walnuts, glazed almonds, yogurt raisins, and granola clusters” with a nice touch of brown sugar. Next thing you know I’m popping trail mix like I’m a liposuction patient popping post-surgery painkillers.
Emerald is on point with its contagious, natural flavor. That sugary coating I mentioned is a bit deceiving because it turns out to be a pleasant sweetness that complements the cranberries and coated raisins. I checked out the Emerald Nuts website and also caught on to their Berry Blend and Tropical Blend varieties. It’s a bit pricey, but keep Emerald Trail Mix pouches in your bag or desk drawer to curb hunger pangs and satisfy your sweet tooth. It’s well worth it and they’re not just for breakfast!

Reactions from the Taste Test Crew
Health-hater Husband – Are these yogurt covered raisins? Oh no……but wait, I like the apple chips. The mix has a nice sweet flavor that tastes natural. For me, it’s a perfect mid-afternoon snack, but don’t eat it if you’re not a fan of raisins.
Greedy Kid #2 - I hate raisins….Oooo this is good. Let me get some more.
Yum Up! to: The best trail mix I’ve ever tasted.
Yuck Down! to: Raisin haters. Blah!

DEfinitely have to portion control that! I might add in my own raw almonds extra to up the protein content for the work snack… a bit low there but otherwise, sounds to good not to stop! Oh, didn’t you say that!!! HA! Thx!

Sounds good. I love little surprises in colorful bags. Each mouthful filled with a different treat! I am with Jody on the fact that the protein is rather low for trail mix. Although, a lot of them are.
