Taste Test: Lean Pockets Stuffed Chicken Quesadilla

007Call me the Quesadilla Specialist. I’ve ordered this Mexican extravaganza from just about every appetizer menu around, and I can whip up homemade versions in a snap. So could frozen Lean Pockets Stuffed Quesadilla impress me? I’m thinking “no”.

This is a Grilled Chicken Fajita version, which sounds pretty original, and the picture on the box looks really good too. But falling in love with frozen food from its picture is like falling for a Nigerian e-mail scam. So let’s dig in and find out what this thing really tastes like.

How about that! The Quesadilla isn’t microscopic. It has a disc-shape with a 5 inch diameter and almost 1/2 inch thickness. A manly-man could quite possibly become full. I zapped it in the microwave and quickly caught on to the aroma of what smelled like a genuine Quesadilla.

It’s a Pockets meal, so the contents (white meat chicken, cheese and veggies in sauce) are obviously enclosed inside the crust, and because of its generous size I wasn’t sure if I should use a fork and knife or eat it like a sandwich. Then I caught on to the perforations that split the Quesadilla into four sections. I’m using my hands.

I split it down the middle and took my first bite. Ahhh…it has a nice crispy external crust, yet a chewiness on the inside part of the crust. I like that.

The onions, red peppers, roasted poblano chiles, and chicken are good sized chunks. It’s a harmony of ingredients that really do resemble the picture on the box and make for a spicy dish with flavor in every single bite. I can actually see specks of spices. The package says that it’s “stuffed with real cheese”, which I totally believe because my Artificial Flavor Radar Detector didn’t sound off. When I was done eating, the flavorful aftertaste still lingered. I wasn’t ready to drink my water because it would wash the tastiness away. Yes, it’s that good.

Lean Pockets Stuffed Quesadilla offers you a very filling meal for only 360 calories. I ate this for lunch, but it could easily double as a low calorie dinner and leave you room for dessert.

QuesadillaAlthough the package cook times were a bit off and my meal was slightly lukewarm in the center, it didn’t matter. The taste made up for it and I’m impressed. A frozen Quesadilla actually exceeded my expectations. I’ll buy this one again and again.

those are definitely good! i’ve picked up lean pockets especially for weekend snacking when you want lunch, but don’t want to break out everything in the fridge to make it. i’ve always been impressed with them!

Cher,
I never had these Lean Pocket Quesadillas but Josie sure makes them sound good. I will have to try them after Easter.

Oooo, I actually really like these! I have a ton of lean pocket stuff sitting in the freezer that I won’t eat, but I think these are yummy. Glad you liked them!
