Taste Test: Kashi Chicken Rustico Pocket Sandwich

6a010536e3fd46970c01157054bc7f970b 320wi Taste Test: Kashi Chicken Rustico Pocket Sandwich Forget what you know or think you heard about pocket foods – Hot Pockets, Lean Pockets, breakfast-type pockets, whatever. Kashi’s new line of Pocket Bread Sandwiches has officially made a mockery of other so-called pockets and raised the bar on quality and
taste. Seriously.

Chicken Rustico Pocket Bread Sandwich

There’s so much natural flavor brimming from this meal. Nothing I’ve ever tried in a frozen box has come this close to tasting homemade. It’s a delectable blend of “chicken, spinach, roasted red peppers, Crimini mushrooms and a white wine tomato sauce” inside a pocket of soft, warm bread that comes out of the microwave like a fresh, oven baked multi-grain roll.

And it’s filled to capacity. Never mind getting ripped off by other pockets that are half
full, leaving you with too much bread and not enough of the filling you paid for. I leaned in to take a bite and not only got a pleasant aroma, but a vibrant mix of food colors as well. The picture on the box actually does it some justice.

The flavor is a harmonious blend of tangy and sweet, with a touch of Parmesan and a flurry of spices like garlic, onion, and sea salt. I burned my tongue because I got Greedy and started eating too fast.

But wait a minute! Is this really a flawless Taste Test?

Not exactly.

It only comes with 3 or 4 chunks of chicken, but it’s a transgression I find worthy of forgiveness. I’ve already purchased five of the Chicken Rustico variety, and a Veggie Medley, which mysteriously went missing. There’s also Turkey Fiesta. Now go try one.

I’ve had the Kashi cereal and really enjoyed it. Didn’t know they made these too. I will have to check them out – the other ones I avoid (my kids would eat them all the time…). So, it even looks like you liked them so well…you ate the box too!!!! (I’ll probably skip that, but that’s just me!). Have a great Monday Josie!

Correction: The BABY ate the box. She’s Greedy too.

I love Lean Pockets, so i’ll have to give these a try!!!

  4. Might be something for my hubby. You know me Josie, I don’t eat this stuff but it sure sounds good! Sodium a bit high but not as bad as some of them. I think it can work for many though. Me, I would bring some extra protein….HA! You sure made it sound appealing, that is for sure! I love the Kashi Go Lean cereal but have to be careful as it bloats me. I never buy the granola version with the protein cause I can’t stop eating it!!!!

    Update! 6/16/09
Veggie Medley is equally delicious. I’m eating it right now. The veggies taste so fresh: onions, zucchini, broccoli, peppers, spices…I even spotted some beans. It’s wonderful. Eat up!
